Ho Chi Minh was born in Vietnam in the year 1890. His father was Nguyen Shin Huy a teacher employed by France who's teachings to his children lead to his kids becoming future Communists and Nationalists. Nguyen didn't bother learning French which led him to unemployment and so he traveled all over Vietnam working for peasents to survive. Ho Chi Minh was important to North Vietnam and the Vietnam War because, he led the communists to victory many times and he was one of their leaders.
Important Events In Ho Chi Minh's Life During And Before The War
In 1890 ho Chi Minh was born.
In 1917 Ho Chi Minh while in Paris read books by Karl Marx and other such authors and eventually gained a liking for Communism.
In 1920 when the French Communist Party was formed Ho became one of its founding members.
In 1940 when the Japenese invaded Indochina the French were occupied in Germany and so they decided to surrender to the Japanese and Ho Chi Minh and others saw this as the perfect oppertunity and formed the Vietminh organization.
In 1945 Ho Chi Minh declared the forming of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam( or DMV).
The French refused to recognize the Democratic Republic of Vietnam declared by Ho Chi Minh and fighting soon started between the Vietminh and the French Army.
By 1953 the Vietminh had control over a lot of North Vietnam.
Later the French tried to make treaties with the Vietminh but, Ho Chi Minh and the other leaders of the Vietminh didn't trust the French and didn't accept.
Years later it was decided by world leaders that Vietnam would be re-united, Ho Chi Minh would be the Communist ruler of North Vietnam and Ngo Dinh Diem would be the Anti-Communist ruler South Vietnam, and that an election for the countries leader would be held.
Although yet many members of the Vietminh agreed to this Ho Chi Minh argued about it and he knew that he or some other Communist leader would most likely be elected and President Eissenhower saw this to and feared it.
In 1960 Ho Chi Minh and others formed the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (A.K.A the NLF or Vietcong).
In 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson launched the Operation Rolling Thunder which its goal was to destroy North Vietnam's economy and to stop it from supporting the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam it also included bombing some of the NLF territory in South Vietnam. This operation was planned to last only eight weeks but it lasted a long three years.
In 1969 Ho Chi Minh died.
