Operation Rolling Thunder
What exactly was Operation Rolling Thunder
Well, the Gulf of Tonkin Incident was an incident where North Vietnam attacked some U.S patrol boats being operated by South Vietnam and destroyed some also killing many which led to the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution being made. The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution gave President Lyndon B. Johnson the authority to launch Operation Rolling Thunder in 1964. The goal to be accomplished by Operation Rolling Thunder was to destroy the North Vietnam's economy, to stop North Vietnam from supporting the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam, and to bomb some of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam's territory in South Vietnam. Although Operation Rolling Thunder was originaly supposed to last eight weeks this operation lasted for a long three years and during that time the U.S dropped one million tons of bombs on Vietnam.
