How Exactly Did The Vietnam War Start?
Well, in 1920 the French Communist Party was formed and Ho Chi Minh was one of the original founding members. In 1940 Ho Chi Minh and other nationalists formed a new organization named the Vietminh under leadership of General Vo Nguyen Giap. Later in 1945 Ho Chi Minh declared the forming of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (or DMV). France refused to be knowledgable of the DMV and fights soon started between the Vietminh and the French Troops. First Vietminh was under rule of Vo Nguyen Giap who had trouble with the fights but, soon in 1949 the Communist Mao Zedong defeated Chaing Kai-Shek in China and Vietminh now had a safe-zone. In 1953 the Vietminh controlled a lot of North Vietnam but, France had a very firm hold on South Vietnam. Later in the fight France realized they were trapped in the war so they asked for aid. Many world leaders held a conferrence on the war and a treaty was made.So the North and South would be re-united also Ho Chi Minh would be ruler of the Communist North and Ngo Dinh Diem would be ruler of the Anti-Communist South but, an election would be held. Many of the North accepted this treaty but, Ho Chi Minh decided against it and he soon thought that he would most likely be elected for leader of all of the re-united Vietnam. Eisenhower soon saw this too and decided against holding the election so Ngo Dinh Diem would be leader. So the North decided violence violence was the only way to accomplish their goals. And later the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam(NLF or Vietcong)was formed. In 1964 Lyndon B. Johnson launched an operation called Operation Rolling Thunder to stop the North Vietnam Government from supporting the Vietcong. This operation lasted three years.
